Sustainable Agriculture

for Women’s Empowerment

The “Sustainable Agriculture for Women’s Empowerment” project was successfully implemented by the Health Welfare Association in 5 remote villages of Kadiri Mandal, Sri Sathya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh, during 2024, with the generous support of Vastenactie, Netherlands. The project aimed to improve livelihoods, food security, and dignity among 200 marginalized Dalit women farmers through sustainable and organic agriculture practices.

Women received structured training in organic farming methods, soil health management, natural pest control, and water conservation, along with organic inputs such as seeds and bio-fertilizers. Regular field monitoring and demonstration plots ensured effective adoption of new techniques. As a result, crop yields increased by over 50%, household incomes improved by nearly 70%, and food security was strengthened in 80% of beneficiary households.

The project also promoted women’s leadership through collective farming and marketing groups. Overall, the initiative enhanced women’s confidence, economic independence, and environmental sustainability, contributing to long-term rural resilience.
